Oh, and can I tease about a type sent out in that info packet? =P
Speaking of which...what's your situation on editing muscle? Your need for it, in particular. I'm curious and keeping it in mind for when I can finally get a job. I'd like to volunteer my time back into this group again.

We would love to take you on as an editor - I think Gezza tests you first or something. You're very welcome to help!

Re: New publishing section eh?
If any of you are keen on being editors, that's fine, but I need to make sure you are comfortable with the type of QA that we need, and are up to it. Apologies for sounding condescending - it in no may a slight to you - this is a business, and we can be good readers, even content editors, but copy editing is a specialised skill and talent.
So.. here are the facts:
1. This is paid. For basic copy editing it is 0.004 cents per word (US). More complex work attracts more money, including content editing.
2. The jobs at this stage are stand by - we will only call on those on the register if we have overflow. We expect, over time, to transition such folk into part time and permanent positions. Don't expect a job for months, although I can be proven to be wrong.
3. The test is a 2-chapter excerpt of a novel that was actually submitted, with the authors name and title removed to protect the innocent. All I ask is that you mark-up edit it, and forward back to me, and tell me how long, in a real life work situation, you think you could have done it.
4. I look at your mark up and decide if you have what it takes. I will offer to put you on the register in an order of completed test mode - and I will also register what genres and forms you particularly like, and those you particularly hate, if any.
5. Based on the list, and preferences, we offer the odd editing job.
Anyone who wants to try out, please email me at gerryhuntman@ifwgpublishing.com
Cheers

6. This month I will write a manifesto on how IFWG Publishing actually wants editing to be done.

Lol. I like the "paid" part. *does some math* Hmm, not too shabby! May I presume this 'mark up' test involves possessing MS Word?

Yep, although there are other ways to handle it. For the test, for instance, it isn't absolutely necessary, but it sure helps a lot for the actual work.

I say, dear Miss! I made that offer in utter seriousness. I cannot, for the life of me, understand what exactly you found so amusing. I shall pause and consider whether or not to be offended by your automatic assumption that I was attempting to be humorous. * brief pause*. Yes, I do believe that I am quite offended: I demand an apology forthwith!

I want to talk to my lawyer before I make any kind of apology.
By the way, my lawyer's Darth Vader.
