Re: Guild of Warriors
You could bring rain to drought -stricken areas and bush fires to places that really need to fall off the map! Guess since you're a rain-god, you could even prevent mudslides! Too bad for the eathquake vics...

We're getiing a massive early snowstorm here: Gerry, are you visiting either Philadelphia or NYC this week? Haven't had a white Christmas here in over 20 years...

Ah, the Rain God... trucker...
G, if you ever visit Britain and we suddenly have a natural disaster, I'm blaming you. S'all I'm saying.

Re: Guild of Warriors
I'm starting to regret recounting those episodes - I've suddenly become anathema! I swear, that was it!
Re: Guild of Warriors
Had a tornado pass through my town as a child: sounded like a freight-train, but I didn't find out what it was until the next day. As for visuals: saw 40 inches of snow (1 meter for the non-Yanks) fall in less than 24 hours in Korea, and watched a sandstorm roll over us when I was stationed in the Middle East. Never was able to get all the sand out of my helicopter!
But here in Jersey, we're a little north of the hurricanes and a little south for the nor'easters. We get both, just not full-force. Mental note: Don't invite Gerry to visit during either season...

Like that poor chap in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy who was a rain god and didn't know it? Yes, you might be on to something. Gezza, I think maybe I'll stay here in my hemisphere for a while longer. Don't want to get wiped from the face of the planet by a tsunami on Bondi Beach.

G, I think you might be an elemental power of some sort, unawakened. You want to be careful where you go... nature follows you everywhere.

Re: Guild of Warriors
I was in Canberra when it was hit with its worst Bush Fire (what we call Forest Fires) - dozens of people died and it didn't just burn out forest/bushland, it also burned out entire suburbs. My suburb (at the time) was close - and in the middle of the day the sky was dark red. Can never forget it, and it seemed otherworldly to me.
Ironically, when my family moved to Melbourne, that same week Victoria (the state where Melbourne is the capital) had it's worst Bush Fires - over 100 people died and entire towns were destroyed. Melbourne was covered in a haze (but because of distance, not as bad as my previous experience), and my daughter had her one and only serious asthma attack and had to go to hospital.
Finally (yep, I got a few), on my 40th birthday my wife organised a 6 day vacation in Vanuatu - on my actual birthday, a cyclone hit - including the 'eye of the storm' effect. It was amazing! The hotel was well built, but the sound was incredibly loud.

Note to self: offer gezza a trip to Bondi Beach during negotiations...
I'll have to take your word on Melbourne. I've never been to Australia, and it's a goal of mine. I've got quite the romantic image of the place in my head. Hearing of the drought that's spreading about hasn't been fun. (and far less fun to experience, I'm sure) I saw pictures of the red dust storm that hit Sydney a few weeks back. If anything looks like the work of an evil wizard, it's that. That was eerie. I can't even imagine being there while it struck.
Anyone else ever see massive works of Mother Nature and envision them as deeds done by powerful magic users? Or maybe that's just me. It's a nice way to get scope for power.

I only I was near Bondi Beach!! I live in Melbourne, which is a great, great city, but it is poor by Australian standards for beaches. Just grateful my little one doesn't care.
I am sure our negotiation skills will work our just fine!

Re: Guild of Warriors
Nonsense, gezza; if you've reached the point where you need your martial arts, something has gone wrong in your negotiations.
And you're about halfway around the planet. By the time I got there, I'd be too excited about seeing Australia's awesome sights. "gezza who? Ooh, Bondi Beach!"

Val, if I knew how well versed you are in the MAs, I may have had second thoughts about being your editor!! LOL
Re: Guild of Warriors
Ah, WG, thanks for the reminder about the softer side. My senseis taught us to fix what we broke, so we were always current in first aid and CPR, and we learned how to set bones and realign joints and put backs and necks back in place when we cranked each other's bodies around too far.
Mind you, we didn't have a technique for raising the dead, so our killing techniques haven't ever been practiced for real...

Re: Guild of Warriors
Unlike these vicious ladies, I am a gentle soul, and have had extensive 1st aid training between Boy Scouts, the Navy and the Army. And of course I know Jersey CPR: when someone drops to the ground you take their wallet, kick 'em once and say: "Get up, 'fore ya f**in' die!"
I also may or may not have some insight into how organized crime may or may not work, because I may or may not know or have met people who may or may not be involved...

Re: Guild of Warriors
I'm from Yorkshire, so I pretty much kick people til they cry.
Does that count as martial arts?
(Note: Yorkshire is a bit near the top of England where everyone's kickass, cuz we're so hard. 'Yorkshire born, Yorkshire bred, strong in t'arm, thick in t'head'. And all that.)

Re: Guild of Warriors
I carry a black belt in jujitsu, and I cross-trained extensively in karate and a few weapon styles: bo, hanbo, jo, escrima, knife, gun. Offense and defense both. I've practiced some capoeira, judo, tai chi, and aikido.
If you have a ninja in your story, alien martial artists, or even just a weaponless scuffle in the back streets, maybe I can help.
For reference, I'm 5'4" and small-boned, so I'm familiar with techniques against larger opponents. Sometimes I had to alter my arts in order to get the same result as the big guys, so I'm relatively good with figuring out what works.

I love it when I can figure out who's doing the saying by what is said. And I'm referring to those members of the guild that came from Westwood's site.
