Watership Down
From 1972.
I remember reading this great book in my fourth grade class. I just saw it again on Amazon and the ranking is still high today.
If you have somehow missed this book, find one and read it! It is a true classic.
I read the comments and reviews on the book and it is amazing how transcends age barriers, an adult will be as happy to read it as a child is.
It is far more than a book about talking rabbits. You can learn much about creating characters that the reader will love and feel close to.
Though there are now many books under the same name,
the original by Richard Adams is the one to get.
